Project Templates
Projects
•Apr 10, 2026Project templates let you define a standard structure for recurring projects — predefined tasks, subtasks, and activities that are automatically created whenever you start a new project from that template. This saves time and ensures consistency across similar engagements.
Who Can Create Templates?
Templates are typically created by administrators or users with the appropriate permissions. If you need a template created, contact your SalesKey administrator.
Navigate to: Settings > Templates > Project (for creating/managing templates)
Using a Template When Creating a Project
- Click + New Project.
- Click Use Template and select the template from the list.
- Review the pre-populated information — the template will have suggested tasks and activities.
- Customize:
- Title — Update to reflect the specific project
- Start and End Dates — Set real dates (tasks may auto-adjust relative to these)
- Assignees — Assign the correct team members
- Click Save.
The project will be created with all the template's predefined tasks and activities already in place.
What Can a Template Include?
| Template Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Tasks | Predefined work items with subjects and estimated durations |
| Subtasks | Nested tasks under parent tasks |
| Activities | Predefined calls, meetings, or milestones |
| Phase Structure | Tasks organized into board phases |
Benefits of Using Templates
- Consistency — Every project of the same type starts with the same structure.
- Speed — No need to manually recreate tasks for each new project.
- Completeness — Reduces the chance of forgetting a standard step.
- Onboarding — New team members can follow a clear, structured project plan.
Requesting a New Template
If you regularly run a type of project that does not have a template yet:
- Identify the recurring structure — list out the common tasks and phases.
- Contact your SalesKey administrator with the details.
- The admin can create the template in Settings > Templates > Project.
Tips
- Templates work best for repeatable, structured processes (e.g., client onboarding, website builds, quarterly reviews).
- Always review and customize the template after applying it — real projects always have some unique requirements.
- If a project you just completed had a great structure, ask your admin to create a template based on it.
